A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s comment section.
Word Prompt
Amateur
Challenge
My friend lists my achievements in wide-eyed wonder. “Is there anything you can’t do?”
While it’s true I’ve had some good reviews, my books aren’t on the Times bestseller list.
Despite sales, with each new painting, I still feel like an amateur.
And, please, don’t ask me about my organizational skills.
She will always be a pro to me. I’ve got some books to prove it. And I’ve seen her paintings.

Dear Rochelle,
Maybe it’s a good thing to always consider ourselves amateurs. Maybe this is what pushes us to do better…
Excellent 51-words – now, for me to do mine…
Shalom and Lotsa love,
Dale

Dear Dale,
True, As I like to say “Pobody’s nerfect.” The accolades are nice but it’s best to keep one’s clay feet planted on Terra Firma. Okay, done with the platitudes. 😉 Thank you.
Shalom and lotsa hugs,

Your writing is very, very far from an amateur. Your artwork is also not an amateur job. No stick figures here. Your organizational skills………..well, you can’t win them all. Lol.

Dear Jan,
As I said, “Pobody’s nerfect” and organization is why I have you, m’luv. Thank you. ❤

Ah, it seems even amateurism comes in degrees … 😉 Yours is an expert amateur kind, eh?
😉
As for keeping the perception of being an amateur — I think it is fine as long as it doesn’t stop one from following their heart and doing the work and taking the steps and practicing their craft.
And you, my dear, are doing just that.
🙂
Well done, Rochelle!

Na’ama Y’karah,
Like most, I’m my own worst critic. At the same time, you’re right about following my heart…and loving the process. Thank you so much for a delightful comment and compliment. 😀 ❤

🙂 We can critic ourselves AND have a community of hearts around us to help give perspective to our neuroses. 🙂
Loving the process is key.
It is the path that matters, not the destination.

Artists are allowed to be what others would call disorganized. 5 can’s with brushes…pushaw! Each can has brushes for a specific kind of paint, a particular way of painting… why, you should have seen my mentors pain cans, must have been 20 or more… hehehe! just teasing! I, most likely as not, use the same old brush ( a small chisel) for nearly everything and my canvas or drawing board is usually propped on my knees. My she-shed room…now, that’s a whole other world!

Dear Bear,
I only took a picture of one portion of the room. 😉 I also do a lot of drawing with the board propped on my knees. I find that my little table easel gets me on my feet and I prefer to paint standing. I recently treated myself to a really nice wash brush for sky painting. Another artist can understand the thrill in that. 😉 Thank you for reading and commenting.

Rochelle

Oh, I do. You should have seen me the last time I got a new fan brush…hehe! Hubby always makes like that PBS guy with “Almighty Fan Brush”. As I’m packing I’m finding more and more “misplaced” brushes here, there, and everywhere…. hehe!
