A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s comment section.
ARACHNOPHOBIA
Remember the animated version of Charlotte’s Web?
Who could resist Wilbur the pig,
The runt of the litter,
Sweetly voiced by Henry Gibson?
“Fine swine.”
Charlotte, a darling with eight legs,
Who sounded like Debbie Reynolds,
Spun the piglet’s praises into her web.
I wept
When she
Went to the great spiderweb in the sky
Leaving poor Wilbur to grieve.
Tender story.
However,
Should one of Charlotte’s eensy-weensy relatives
Visit me.
Whack! Splat!
I don’t care if
She was a sentient life form, Captain Janeway.
Dear Rochelle,
So glad you weren’t feeling it… Imagine if you were! This was great!
Shalom and lotsa love, sans sticky web,
Dale

Rochelle,
I can still remember Charlotte’s sweet voice – how sad it was when she died. If only that spider had had a Debbie Reynolds voice, it wouldn’t have gone splat 😀

Dear Dora,
Indeed, if a real spider came to visit and sounded like Debbie Reynolds I’d probably let her live. 😉 Charlotte was cute. I’m not at all fond of the real variety. Unless they’re outside building their beautiful webs. 😉 Thank you.

Na’ama Y’karah,
I quite agree. Charlotte was adorable. As long as she was animated. 😉 Todah. 😀

🙂 yeah, I don’t mind itty-bitty-tiny spiders, as long as they stay outta my way, and I’m told that as a child I did fairly well with massive green spiders (long story), but, yeah, animates is a good step. 😉

Nice one, Rochelle.
I enjoy seeing the many spider webs as I walk trails in the early mornings. Not so much the ones I don’t see and walk through. Argh!
At home, I marvel at neighbors who prefer to have their homes sprayed with chemicals rather then share space with a few itsy bitsy, shy spiders.
🙂
Peace,
Bill

Dear Bill,
Some of those webs are amazing. Such artistry. However, I’m not big on sharing my living space with spiders. They can have the great outdoors. 😀 Thank you.

Dear Rochelle,
The last lines of your delightful take on the prompt made me chuckle.
I don’t mind spiders–at least not the little ones.

Dear Adele,
I’ve never had a great love for spiders. 😉 In fiction they’re okay. Thank you.
