A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s comment section.
Although this isn’t a true story, per se, it’s a reality for too many.
FAIRY TALE ROMANCE
Lucky white heather in her bouquet,
She approaches her Prince Charming
And links her fingers with his
Never dreaming that loving hand
Will viciously end her life.
Dear Rochelle,
A whole story told in 27 words! Well done, my friend!
Shalom and lotsa pain-free love,
Dale

Dear Dale,
Too may of those stories in the news. Heartbreaking. If you don’t want to be married anymore, can’t you just walk away? Thank you.
Shalom and lotsa gentle hugs,
Rochelle

I know. It must be scary to walk away, otherwise why do so many stay?

I just don’t get these men who murder their wives AND children. Horrifying.

Dear Rochelle,
Your passion for biographical narrative triumphs in 27 words! Well done. If only there were a charm to tell when marriages are fraught with disaster, BEFOREHAND!

How do you do it? A whole story in 27 words. Oh yes, I forgot. You are the Wordsmith. Good job. You always write a good story.
P.S., an answer in 27 words.

Dear Jan,
I see the prompt. Then I do a little research. I ponder for bit.
The muse shows up in ways I never expect. I write.

Beautiful twist there. And, the heather will help hide the smell… so I’m told. LOL!

I’m not sure exactly why my muse led me there, but she did. I hate it that people are capable of this. 😦

Hey Rochelle,
It’s still the weekend in our part of the world, so you’re not late at all. Besides, I usually wait till Sunday to read these anyway, so I get to see as many as possible.
Indeed, the mystery of human inhumanity is baffling. The history is long, the stories are sad.
Peace,
Bill

Dear Bill,
These days my Saturdays are so busy that unless I’m struck with an idea at 5 AM the prompt will have to wait until Sunday. At any rate, thank you for the encouragement and the affirming comment.

Seems like the Lucky White Heather isn’t working this week, m’lady, for either of us!
I guess the honeymoon is over here…

In this case, the honeymoon is most definitely over. Thank you.

You’re right. This is the sad reality for many women.
I liked how you started out all light and romantic and then stop us cold with the last two lines. Well done!

It begins with Love Actually and ends with American Horror Story. As do too many unions, where the beginning is really the end. Frightening.
And you did it in twenty seven words. I bow to you.

Dear Mags,
Tragically, fairytale weddings don’t always mean happily ever after, do they?
