A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s Comment Section.
So this is where the word took me. I couldn’t help it, it was there. 😉 (Forgive me, Mark Knopfler.)
DIRE LYRICS
Back in the ‘90’s my husband Jan and a coworker argued over certain song lyrics. It didn’t matter how many times or ways Jan pointed out and proved the error. Kevin wouldn’t budge.
Even now, when we hear Dire Straits sing it, we laugh and sing along using Kevin’s lyrics. “We’re the sultans, we’re the sultans of suede.”

And just for fun…it’s such a great song, especially with the right words.
Neat story and cool song, m’lady.
Some folk just can’t be told, hmm…

Ha! I love this take. And yep, they were a great group. I have enjoyed Mark Knopfler’s solo work since the Dire Straights very much too.
Hmm. I may not be back with a story but maybe and maybe it will be about the dire straights the sultans of suede find themselves in, hell bent for leather.

Dear D.
Dire Straits (no gh) had some terrific songs. I can’t say I’ve kept up with them but Sultans of Su…I mean Swing will always be a favorite. 😉 Thank you.

Dear Rochelle,
What a fun one! Many a lyric had been misheard and missung and will continue to be so no matter how easy it is (now) to get them on line!
Shalom and Lotsa sing-song love,

Dear Dale,
Indeed. I’ve heard a few semi-professional singers cover songs and skew the lyrics. I’m way too much of a perfectionist, I think. Muchas thank you.
Shalom and lotsa melodious hugs,
Rochelle
yeah! yeah! yeah!

Great minds think alike – I went with Dire Straights too. Love Kevin’s version of the lyrics!

Dear Keith,
Kevin was a character. The ongoing feud was entertaining, in any event. Thank you.
Shalom,
Rochelle
PS the band really did spell it “Straits”

This story is great. Brings back some good memories. Kevin was a great guy and one hell of a singer but could not get it that his interpretation was wrong. I had to pull the lyrics and show him. As Rochelle said, we laugh about it every time we hear the song. And sing the the lyrics wrong on purpose.

Dear Anonymous Jan,
I know who you are. 😉 I couldn’t help myself with this one. Kevin gave us something to laugh about. It just never gets old. 😀
