A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s Comment Section.
BY DEFINITION
Breathing in the volume’s musty aroma,
The secondhand bookstore patron opens a volume.
Rife with intricate engravings and photographs
It tells stories of long ago.
She relishes the feel of pages between her hungry fingers.
Tattered leather bindings with embossed titles entice her.
Aaah.
To read.
To dream.
Dear Rochelle,
This is perfection!
Shalom and lotsa wistful love,
Dale

Dear Rochelle,
Why am I picturing you with a lap top, sitting on the back of a motorcycle, traversing some wilderness?
Peace,

Dear Bill,
😀 More like a loaded truck…definitely with a laptop. I haven’t been on the back of a motorcycle for quite a while. 😉

I remember this bookstore. When we found it you had a smile that was ear to ear. Your happy place. Well besides a swim.

Dear Jan,
That was an amazing bookstore. It certainly defined “vellichor” didn’t it?

What a lovely poem! You capture the vellichor so well 🙂 Love this line:
“She relishes the feel of pages between her hungry fingers.”
And is that you in the picture? What an adorable photo! Beautifully framed within vellichor itself 😀

Ha ha! You lucky thing. I hope they manage to stay open during these times. They’re one of the few places that bring us such vellichor happiness 🙂
