CRASHING THE GATE

Every morning she raced him through the entrance as fast as her four legs would carry her. He huffed and puffed behind her, trying to keep up. Alas his best was never good enough.

She would wag her stubby tail in victory as if to say, “Ha! You’ll never win, chubby.”

He’d hang his head as the gate clanked shut behind them. Locked out again. He and his playmate clawed at the rusty hasp and whimpered.

Connie, the lady of the house opened the gate and kissed his cherry-red nose. “Honestly, Russell, I wish you’d just fix the doggone latch.”

To the victor go the spoils.

    • Dear Trent,

Those Russell stories are good for the soul. I figure he’s way ahead of me with Shelley stories so it was high time. 😉 Liza Jane is a white boxer and what a sweetheart. She’s one of Russell and Connie’s dogs and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her. She’s quite a lapful. 😀 Thank you.

      Shalom,

      Rochelle

  • Dear Michelle Angelo W(T)F,

I was so out confounded by your post it took two days to reply. I believe the politically correct term for “chubby” is husky. As for being red-nosed – I yam what I yam.

As with most chores around the house, I’m procrastinating on repairing the doggone latch in hopes the rust will eventually do its job and the dang thing will fall off its hinges.

Liza Jane and Grace Ellen are thrilled with their portraits, and I’m sure Buster would be flattered by your excellent rendering of his image as well.

Best wishes in your new career,
    Crusty, the dog butler

    • Dear Crusty,

I feel for Connie having to constantly let you back in. Perhaps a night or two sleeping in your truck would cure you of procrastination. (Wait for it). Perhaps there will be blizzard conditions in Tahiti and you’ll get that latch fixed.

I’m glad Liza Jane and Grace Ellen like their portraits. I certainly had fun painting them. Nu? No comments on the return address on the envelope? I’m disappointed.

It does seem I have a new career, doesn’t it. From wine glasses to fur and floppy ears. Perhaps someone will ask for a dog with a wine glass. One never knows. 😉

      Shalom,

      • Well, they have dogs playing poker (and I believe drinking beer), so why not sipping wine. A more sophisticated canine, of course.

Love that the portraits were shipped directly was Walla Walla Bing Bang instead of Belton Asylum for Mentally Unstable Mimes. I suggested that we pay for your services with DNR tags, but collecting 3,000 of them would’ve taken forever–especially since so many are missing from our furniture and pillows.

    • Dear Brenda,

The little caricature was actually a birthday card for Russell a few years back when Liza Jane was still a puppy. This seemed a good time to share. 😉 That dog does have a lot of personality and is in the right home. Thank you.

    • Dear Anne,

      Dear Anne,
I’ve booped a few kitties on the nose. Granola, my cali who passed a while back used to love to touch noses. I think she thought she was a puppy. 😉 Thank you.
      Shalom,

      Rochelle
