TURN THE PAGE
Another trip around the sun is complete. I’ve welcomed the new year. Resolutions? No. Like Christmas toys they’re, more-often-than-not, abandoned by February first. Goals? Yes. For one, I’m shooting for two-hundred swim miles by December.
Other goals include releasing a new novel.
Scrolling through a lengthy list of my publisher’s suggested edits, I fight the urge to turn off the computer and hide under my bed with the dust bunnies.
Steady girl. You’ve got this. There are paintings to be painted and an important story to tell.
A milestone birthday and new chapter of life loom large on my horizon.
A very happy new year Rochelle. I hope you achieve your goals.

Dear Jen,
The year is starting with some promise. 😀 2022 was a good one so I’m hoping this one’s even better. I signed with the new publisher for next novel in October. Had some great art sales.
At any rate, swimming really does calm my anxieties so I’m not going to put too much pressure on that goal. I made it to 164 miles last year. Not ashamed of that by any means.
Thank you.

Instead of hiding under the bed from that list of edits, go to the pool and swim laps – you’ll still be avoiding but gaining on your other goal: win-win 😉 lol Yep, too much life to live to go and hide. Have a wonderful 2023!

Dear Trent,
The truth is I’m more likely to swim laps than hide under the bed. The dust bunnies would only remind me of how much housecleaning needs to be done. 😉 Thank you for your encouraging comments.

I agree with you about resolutions. They are abandoned quickly. Goals are kind of the same thing but practical to work with as they require to be broken down into tasks. I’m sure you’ll get there. Under the bed is needed sometimes. You might find a dust bunny gem.

Dear Tannille,
Goals are good if they’re reasonable. I’m sure if I set a goal to dance on Broadway this year, it would be doomed from the inception. 😉 I”ll have to think on that dust bunny gem thing. 😀 Thank you.

Dear Bear,
Some of the edits are a little drastic and a couple I’m not sure I agree with but then she’s given me carte blanche to take all or none of her suggestions. 😉 Lots to consider. The road ahead does look promising indeed. Thank you.

Love the PS… 🙂 I hope it works out. By the time I did the edits from the last time I tried to get published, there wasn’t enough of a story left to make it worth my time, so I dropped it. Decided to go back to writing for friends. So far, I find that very much more rewarding. Shalom, Bear

Dear Mason,
At this point in the editing, I’ve come to a slight disagreement with the editor. However for the most part I’m good with her suggestions…or thin this case “their” as there were three.
As for the swimming, I added 300 yards to my workout yesterday and am feeling pretty pleased with myself. 😀 Thank you.

I was afraid my “story” was more like an essay but I see I am not the only one to go that route. Once again, without even realizing or intending to, you have made me feel good about my efforts.
Much luck in the coming year. You deserve everything you are working toward!

Dear Dawn,
Narrative essay is actually what I meant to go in the genre tag. While we’re called Friday Fictioneers…We’re more like Wednesday Writers…;) It doesn’t have to be fiction. It doesn’t even have to be prose. Glad my piece made you feel good about yours. 😀
Thank you for your kind words.

Since I measure my laps in yards, I cannot imagine, but good for you. You go girl!!!

Dear Bill,
And I raise my nightcap to you. I actually measure my laps in yards, too. I’ve bumped it up from 2700 yards to 3000. 1760 yards is a mile. I’ve had a few physical challenges already this year, so we’ll see how it goes.
As the book’s under contract I just have to work hard at those edits. I bid you a fond good night.

Thanks Rochelle,
Competitive swimmers (raised 3) call 1650 yards (1500 meters) a “mile.” But I agree with your math for a statute mile.
