This week I did something I rarely do. Due to the concern many readers had for poor jilted James, I decided to share his side of the story. 😉 If you haven’t read my story from last week or just want a refresher: CLICK HERE.
Genre: Hysterical Fiction
Word Count: 100
HAPPILY EVER AFTER PART II
James gazed at Hattie’s note. His fiancé was on her honeymoon with David?
Perhaps he should’ve seen it coming. Hattie and his best man had been good friends since childhood.
Now what?
The caterers had been paid. Flowers and streamers festooned the reception hall where an elegant three-tiered cake awaited the happy bride and groom.
Twirling Hattie’s engagement ring around his left pinkie finger, he typed in a number on his phone with his right index finger.
“James!” said a woman’s voice. “I didn’t expect to hear from you.”
“Hi Kate. As it turns out I’m free tonight after all.”
Another happy ending?

Oh dear, seems they were both cheating. Probably best the wedding didn’t go ahead!
Nice one, Rochelle.

Dear Rochelle,
Kinda hard to feel bad about James being dumped now. (Though the how still stinks.) How quickly he turned that around. I’m going to choose to believe that they knew each other; that he told her he was taken so no hanky panky went on beforehand and now that he is free… well, time to enjoy!
Shalom and lotsa what’s love got to do with it!

Dear Dale,
I like your conclusion. Obviously James isn’t the picture of the grief-stricken, jilted groom, is he? Makes one wonder what led up to this moment. (Nah, I don’t think I’ll write it). 😉
Shalom and lotsa plain old hugs,

Oh I’m glad you’ve turned things around for James too, although I suspect he’s just sunk in my estimation. I’m choosing to believe that this was an arranged marriage neither of them truly wanted and the break-up has left them both free to do what they always wanted to.
Maybe we need a three-quel from her father’s POV!

This is what I call a ringing endorsement for always having a Plan B. I think they should have the party anyway with his side of the wedding and make the best of it. Glad you decided to write a Part 2 on this one, Rochelle.

I consider myself pretty unflappable, Rochelle, but I don’t think I’m quite at the ask-someone-on-a-date-on-my-wedding-day-after-my-fiancee-ran-off level of cool. Loved it and it made me laugh. 🙂

Just like that the problem is solved and once again time and moving on rings resilience. Good recovery. Anyway, divorce always cost more than a wedding.

Dear Bill,
My husband and I say we’ve stayed together because we couldn’t afford a divorce. I’ve always threatened him with a custody battle. I told him I’d hire a lack of character witnesses and prove I was an unfit mother. Now that the kids are grown and gone it doesn’t really apply.
After 51 years there’s no plan B 😉
Thank you.

Right, Rochelle.
Yolonda has always said that I would have to take the kids. She also gives credit to living in Turkey for most of our first two years. Neither of us had anyone or anywhere else to go.
