This week Pegman is in Portland, Oregon. Your mission is to write up to 150 words inspired by the location. Feel free to use the image supplied with the prompt, or choose your own view of Portland in streetview or photosphere.
Once your piece is polished, share it with others at the link up below. Reading and commenting on others’ work is part of the fun.
Congratulations to Karen for passing her certification test. Did we have any doubts? Thanks to Josh for holding down the fort in her absence.
Below is the photo I chose from Google.

GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT
“Portland is amazing.” Dale snapped a photo. “Especially at night.”
Rochelle breathed in the rain-soaked air, relishing the salty aroma. “What a fabulous way to celebrate Karen’s certification and Dale’s birthday.”
Lish ruffled her fingers through her auburn hair. “Let’s find a place to sit, shall we?”
The ladies found a table at a local tavern. Karen popped the cork of a bottle of champagne.
Rochelle raised her glass, shifting her gaze from face to face, etching the details of each one into her memory. “To writing challenges and great friends.”
Without warning, the floor rumbled beneath them. Glass shattered.
The bartender screamed. “Earthquake!”
Karen, Lish and Dale vanished amid the rubble.
“No!” Rochelle cried. “The party’s just starting.”
“Honey, wake up.”
Rochelle rolled over and looked up at her husband. “What day is it?”
“Sunday. Why?”
“Oh crap. It’s April 14th. I forgot to send a card to Dale.”
Aw. That’s sweet. Right before I moved there in 1993 there was a 5.0 earthquake that set all the car alarms off. Portland and Seattle both live in the shadows of active volcanos. Remember the curse “may you live in interesting times?” I think “may you live in an interesting place” is equally apt.

Dear Josh,
Glad you enjoyed my story. I knew about the earthquakes and volcanoes. It all factored into the dream party. Thank you.

Dear Rochelle,
Love it! This qualifies as a “birthday card” – no? I have decided it does (though I know you)
Thanks for the sneaky birthday love in a fun story!
Shalom and Lotsa love,
Dale

Dear Dale,
I had to do something. When I realized this was the day, the story wrote itself. Hopefully this summer we can at least realize part of it. 😉 Happy Birthday, again, my friend.
Shalom and lotsa birthday hugs,
Rochelle

Aw this story just made my day! I snorted and snickered the whole way through.
Happy Birthday to Dale! Go back to sleep and we can continue the party in Dreamland!

Dear Karen,
What a pity going back to sleep wouldn’t bring the party back. 😉 Glad it made your day. I love the sounds of snorting and snickering. 😀 Thank you.

What a great way to remember a birthday!
Your story awoke a memory. I lived in California most of my life, and I remember the Sylmar quake. I woke up yelling at my little sister to stop jumping on the bed. When she didn’t I rolled over to see her sleeping right through one of the worst of California’s earthquakes. It was a 6.6 back in in 1971.

Subconscious guilt of forgetting a birthday? Lol. Loved this story/dream. I had a visual moment of the hole opening up and swallowing the gals with you staring down the hole and saying “what the……”.
