Weekend Writing Prompt – Spin

Published May 25, 2019 by rochellewisoff

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.

Thanks to Sammi Cox for the challenge.

“Little wheel spin and spin. Big wheel turn around and round,” sang Buffy Sainte-Marie in the 1960’s. “Blame the angels, blame the fates, blame the Jews or your sister Kate.”

Almost sixty years later I’m afraid to watch the news. Children murder other children in classrooms. Maniacs open fire on congregations of worshippers. Terrorists lob bombs at runners in a race. The list goes on.

And on.

“Teach your children who to hate.”

Who’s next on the Hit Parade?

“Do-si-do. Swing and sway. Dead will dance on Judgment Day. Little wheel spin…”

  • Oh my. I read and reread your 92 words. It is grim, this world that spins yet and yet we have not progressed, have continued to get tangled in hate and fear.
I’m sorry you had to write that and glad you did. You’re a light, and I’ve seen some other lights in the dark, so maybe, maybe…
    Peace be with you.

  • Buffy was a phenomenal singer, writer who spoke out and sang in protest from early on. Although sinister lyrics, these days and times seem even more so. The big wheel goes round and round. Good, macabre rendition M’luv.

  • Grim and true and so well-written!
Thank you, Rochelle, for this truth. For this pause into history and the warning of what may well be if we allow the haters and manipulators of this world to spin out of control and trample society, progress, morality, honor, truth, and humanity in its wake.
    Thank you!

    • Dear Ronda,

Buffy’s music was banned for years in this country. Thank you. President LBJ. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. It seems these days I only get a lot of reads on my Friday Fictioneers pieces. :/ (A little Kosher whine).

      Shalom,

      Rochelle
