FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH
“Something’s happening here. What it is ain’t exactly clear.”
My thoughts scatter this morning like bits of flotsam, jetsam and lagan. The news blares in my ears and assaults my mind. Opinions swirl and spin with tornadic force. As the saying goes, everybody has one…nu?
Meanwhile, I’m gagging on social media fast food.
Yes. I have my own views. I don’t care to get into a virtual shouting match. Speak to me in private. I’ll say what I think. Or maybe I won’t. I hope we can still be friends. If not, perhaps we were never friends to begin with.
And while we’re at it:

There are definitely lapses of conscience that are worthy of a discontinued friendship.

Dear Violet,
It saddens me to see the widening of the great divide. Lapses of conscience is definitely a part of it. Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment.

The last line hits out loud.
We will talk with friends and those who matter.
To avoid those who don’t matter, sometimes one feels like eating to keep the mouth busy (rather than talking!)

The sad part is that friends and family allow politics and other ideologies come between them. Thus, ending relationships. I firmly believe you can still be friends with different belief systems but, unfortunately, most don’t. What a shame.

I can’t argue that point. 😉 However, For What It’s Worth is still relevant and so is Barry McGuires Eve of Destruction. Thank you for your encouraging words. LOL

I didn’t say it was a bad thing. We have a lot of perspective some younger folks lack.

Nor was I taking it as an offense. We saw so many changes. From B&W televistion to records. We drank out of garden hoses and our parents didn’t worry. No one called for us on a cell phone. They stood at the front door and hollered, By golly you’d better be in earshot. I feel priviledged to have been a part of those times. So, I am in total agreement with you. 😀

Sorry for the late reply. The way to get seen is to copy and paste your URL into the inLinkz list. https://fresh.inlinkz.com/party/bbad5e8edecf4561922083e23af625cf
I hope that helps.
The next prompt will be up tomorrow. I’ll be happy to help you link.

You captured so much in this anecdote. I love line ‘I’m gagging on social media fast food’ . It surely isn’t healthy for the mind any more than fast food is for the body.

Dear Clare,
One has to wonder just what is true and what isn’t on social media. I’m not sure I believe any of it these days. Thank you.

And what a fantabulous review! Kudos!

It is a fabulous review. Alas, Bradly doesn’t have an Amazon account. So I had to use his words somewhere.

I never knew that song was called “for what it’s worth” – and enjoyed hearing a bit of it today – also, really like how you connected the song to the ideas in your flash fiction

Dear Anonymous James,
There are friendships based on mutual respect and withstand disagreements and differences. Then there are those that are shallow at best. Thank you for commentiing and identifying yourself.

It’s difficult. Can there be friendship with people who have different views? Certainly, if there is common ground. Can friendship continue if people with different views start to support inhuman, cruel, violent, and racist views? No. As hard as it soundss. It’s your life, and it doesn’t need to be sullied by people like this.
As you know, I stole your jetsam. And rereading, I notice I might have stolen your tornado as well. Called it hurricane though…

Dear Gabi,
It’s all about context. No problem with tornado or jetsam. 😉 I don’t have copyrights to them.
There are friends and then there are friends. I don’t have any that agree with me on everything nor I with them. It’s having the wisdom to know when it’s time to break it off.
Thank you.

Dear Linda,
I have friends like that as well. A friendship based on politics alone is not a friendship IMHO. I have friends on both sides of the fence and we have many more things in common than that. Thank you.

Great take, Rochelle. Social media is fast food for the brain. It’s right up there with reality TV. Somehow, it’s brought us to this place where a disagreement is the end of a discussion, instead of the beginning, which, as we can see, is a horrible place for a society.

Dear Nobbin,
Reality TV is as bad if not worse than social media. I remember seeing movies years ago about reality shows. Not necessarily called that. Preposterous I thought. Who would watch such dreck? And here we are.
Thank you.
