This week Pegman takes us to Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom. Take a tour of the area and see what inspires you. The only rule is that your submission be 150 words or less. You can capture your own picture of the area or use the one provided.
This week’s location was suggested by GeorgieMoon and and I know you’ll have fun here. Thanks for the suggestion Georgie!
As always, thanks to Karen Rawson and J Hardy Carroll for hosting this challenge.
I’ve been MIA from Pegman the past couple of weeks as my coffee table book is taking shape and life has gotten a little hectic. My story has nothing to do with the Isle of Wight and I’m not sure it even has a beginning, middle and end but it’s what is on my mind this morning. You see, my friend passed away just last night. I don’t post this to garner your sympathy, but to tell you about one of the most amazing people I’ve ever had the privilege to know. She leaves in her wake others who can and, I’m sure, will echo my sentiments.

DELLA
The heart has a revolving door, doesn’t it? People come and go, some for longer periods than others. Then there are those who take up permanent residence. We may not see them every day or even call them to chat but they are always there.
She and I had that kind of relationship. A year, even two, could go by, yet, when we met for an occasional coffee, we picked up where we left off.
Her name meant bright or noble. No one else embodied those words in quite the same way. She was the pillar of faith, spirit of wisdom and voice of reason. I never saw her waiver or even slow down.
82 years young? No! She was ageless.
To refer to her in the past tense is unfathomable. Her influence, as my second mother and friend, as long as I walk this earth, will be ever present.
We try to express into words what the heart feels and the mind sees. It is difficult sometimes for us to do this in times of grief. We all thought Della was invincible with her youthful enthusiasm, outlook and personality. We all need to step back and reflect on the fact that we are not promised another day. We need to live life with that in mind. You can never, not be, an example, good or bad. Della was a case of the great and good example. She will be missed by all her knew her.

Yes, and some stay, forever, they just change form but they’re still there, we may not be able to see them, but in the quietness, we cannot fail to feel them. Much love to you 🙂

There are some people we can be thankful to know and Della sounds like one of those people. Almost impossible to believe the world can move without them, but still it does, leaving us to remember them. Lovely tribute Rochelle

It does feel baffling, doesn’t it? Thinking of the world without them. I’m sorry for your loss but also glad you knew someone so wonderful who added so much to your life. Best wishes, Lynn

Once again, you paint a vivid word portrait to tug at the heartstrings (if I may be allowed to mix metaphors).

That’s the solace one finds when a loved one passes. They never really die as long as they remain in your thoughts. So sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you’re handling it as well as can be done.

This beautiful tribute to your dear friend Della has made me pause and think as to whether I am living a giving, full life and what my goals should really be for each day. I know what you meant when you said she is ‘immortal’ in one of the comments above.
Sending you many hugs from across thousands of miles,
Moon.

You really roused some memories for me, Rochelle. Just today I was thinking this is the second “holiday season” without my wonderful parents. Still can’t quite absorb the reality of that. Well done, my dear. Thank you for wording the feeling of loss so well.

Dear Lish,
The holidays are always the hardest. My parents both passed away in the 80’s. I remember how hard it was going through my third pregnancy without my mom. Now I’ve lost my second mom. Sending you hugs, my friend. Thank you.

Great tribute to Della. She leaves more than a trace on this earth. She leaves footprints no one else can fill. They were her’s only, but she inspired all who followed her to make their own.

Dear Joyce,
She was most definitely a second mom to me and filled that spiritual gap. Footprints no one else can fill indeed and well put. I’m sure heaven resounded with an angel chorus singing, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
At our recent lunch, she bought my second and third books. I’m going to miss her, but I’m not alone.
Shalom,
Rochelle
