THERE IS LOVE
The organist played Paul Stookey’s “Wedding Song.”
Denise strolled toward Grant holding her father’s arm. Her round face shone. Grant’s heart raced. Why would such a beautiful woman choose him?
His best man Bart elbowed him. “Here comes the wide-track bride.”
“If you think so little of her, why’d you set us up?”
“She’s my sister. I felt sorry for her.”
Grant remembered how nervous he’d been until their fateful blind date when her periwinkle eyes and infectious laughter put him at ease.
He elbowed Bart. “Make one more wisecrack about my lovely wife and you’ll be my toothless brother-in-law.”

If you’ve never heard it, here’s your chance to hear Paul Stookey singing his Wedding Song
I detected a sort of true to life impression in this story, with the usual banter between relatives. Good story.

Dear James,
I’m a firm believer that there’s someone for everyone. 😉 As always, beauty truly is in the eyes of the beholder. Thank you.

It most definitely is, Neil. And there just might be another one before it’s all over. 😉 Thank you.

I read them in the wrong order but figured it out. It does sound like the banter of siblings and friends – even if Denise was thin and gorgeous, Bart would say the same and Grant would answer him the same… Great song.

Dear Trent,
It’s my hope that each of these stories stands alone. 😉 Brothers can be snarky, can’t they? Love that song, too. Just had to post it. Thank you.

That song was a very big deal when I was getting married, and in many weddings I attended. Good memories.

Dear Linda,
It is such a great song, isn’t it? When I got married in 1971, it hadn’t been written yet. I love watching Paul Stookey’s face as he sings. Thank you.

Really? My memory is getting old 🙂 I could have sworn it was popular when I married in ’69, but clearly I’ve got my wires crossed 🙂

Actually, I was a little off in my calculations. I looked it up and it came out the year I was married. I thought it came out later than that. Apparently, I just wasn’t aware of it in 1971.

This delectable slice of life story had wit, banter, and joi de vivre in equal proportions. Loved this, Rochelle.

I think that love will always bloom if the chemistry is right… and I also think that in the end the wisecrack jokes will be a great family bond.

Love is definitely in bloom here. And Grant will defend his bride. Bart better watch his step I think. 😉 Thank you.

It’s nice to catch up with Denise and Grant three weeks later. I guess that first date went really well.

Dear Nobbin,
I think it might’ve been a little longer than three weeks. 😉 But, the date definitely went well. I’m still a Peter, Paul and Mary fan myself. 😀 Thank you.

The three weeks was a joke on the rapid succession of stories where in a total of 200 words they met and got married. It certainly felt like a whirlwind romance.

Ah (slaps her own forehead) I can’t believe I missed the joke. 😉 Although some courtships…never mind. 😀 Thank you again.

Perfect part 2 and yes, it does stand alone.
Methinks Bart best leave his sister comments to when his newly minted brother-in-law is not in the vicinity…
Shalom and lotsa love!

Dear Dale,
I agree, Bart best watch his tongue around Grant if he wants to keep the straight white teeth around it. 😉 To Grant, Denise is a beauty queen. Grant’s what we call in Yiddish, a mensch. Thank you, my friend.
Shalom and lotsa hugs,
Rochelle

Three variations on a theme – but all well done. A couple of years ago, there was a pop song titled, “She loves me for me.” 😯 Are Generation X, Y, and Z so self-involved that they have to sing about doing what’s only right?
