A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s comment section.
I can’t help myself. To me this is the ultimate therapy. My mental health time. 😉 No apologies for my recurring theme.
FREESTYLE
My happy spot
Solace and solitude
A place to connect with my inner mermaid child
Next best thing to love
A 25-foot concrete trench
Filled with chlorinated water
My liquid haven.
Wonderful watercolours.
A Comfortable chair
TV on low
Warm smiles and an offer of coffee
As into my arm I watch
The blood flow.
My first experience of a blood transfusion this week.

Dear Dave,
A blood transfusion? That’s serious business. Hope all is well. Thank you.

Dear Jen,
I do love to swim. I’ve been described as half fish by more than a few. 😉 Thank you.

I wish I enjoyed swimming, but I don’t. I did, however, love your take on the prompt, Rochelle.

Dear Jo,
My husband says he swims like a rock. 😉 I don’t understand people who don’t love to swim but that’s what makes us all unique, isn’t it? Thank you.

Dear Rochelle,
Don’t you dare ever apologize for what you write! (I know, I know, you said no apologies, still…)
This is wonderful. And how sweet of you to include your fabulous watercolours?
Shalom and lotsa love and laps,
Dale

Dear Dale,
I apologize for any hint of an apology. No doubt there will be a few more swimming pieces in the future. When the mermaid muse slaps her fins I must obey. 😉 Thank you for understanding. ❤
Shalom and lotsa wet hugs,
Rochelle

Na’ama Y’karah,
Between you and Dale, I’ve been served with “No apology” papers. 😉 I’ve been called half-fish by more than one person. I accept the title with wave my fins in joy. If I could have gills surgically implanted I would. Thank you for the laps and love.

🙂 Yep, Dale and me are in cahoots on the serving you no apology papers. Even without discussing it ahead of time, we KNEW you had to be ‘served’ … 😉
Here’s to part-fish people. In my youth I’ve been told I was half-monkey (for climbing up anything climbable, whether it was meant to be climbed or not … ) 😉 My body is a bit less capable of those stunts these days, but the soul-memories remain – I still WANT to climb up everything climbable, whether it is meant to be climbed or not … 😉
So, I hear ya on the gill-situation.
🙂

Though not a mermaid, I will not judge your haven. This ode, in words and pictures is lovely.

Dear D.,
I realize that not everyone is a mermaid. In fact, some are afraid of water. Imagine that. 😉 Many people love skydiving or ziplining. I’ve no desire to do either. I am terrified of heights, particularly in open space. Thank you for your sweet comments.

I know very well where your “haven” is. I’ve seen it from warm Caribbean sands as you slowly become a small dot in the gentle waves. Me…..I thoroughly enjoy the warm beach and cold refreshment from my vantage point. And yes, although I spent 28 years in the Navy, I do indeed swim like a rock. It does not deter my love of the oceans that I have seen all over the world. Our Havens are similar but different. Lol. Good job.

Dear Jan,
And we really must visit more oceans together. Your for the beach and seafood. Me for…well…what else is there? 😉 Thank you, m’luv.

Living just yards from a beautiful beach I really should swim, but I don’t. I have to admit, my liquid haven is a pint in the pub!

Dear Keith,
Shame on you! If I were that close to a beach, hardly any one would ever see me. 😉 Thanks for reading and commenting. Cheers!

I grew up on a chicken farm and my father put in a swimming pool when we were 13. Our whole family helped build it too! It was very cold (Artesian well) which took 2 weeks to warm up. FUN FUN FUN though!

Dear Nan,
Cold water is the best for lap swimming. 😉 It sounds like a lovely place to grow up. Thank you.
