A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s Comment Section.
I love the challenge of learning a new word and then using it creatively. And this one was a challenge. So I digressed to a darker time in my life. Not to garner sympathy. I’ve recently finished a novel with the working title “Last Dance with Annie” based on my own experience with an eating disorder. Much of it is fiction, but a lot of it isn’t. So, without further exposition, this is where the muse took me this morning.
She walked the line
Between brilliance and insanity
Writing
Drawing
Obsessive Compulsive.
Drowning in the river
Denial
Chipping away at the megalith
She couldn’t climb.
Her mirror lied
Demons dined
Until she made a decision.
No looking back.
The boulder crushed to powder,
She writes, paints and
Celebrates life.
*Below are three of the many sketches I did as art therapy during the dark times. If you look closely you can see they’re dated 1992. A different place. A different person.
Well done and your sketches, although dark, are really good, I mean artistically. I hope you’re feeling better now than when you did those.

Dear Dee,
I’m pleased to say, I’m in a much better place. I have many more of those types of sketches that are darker still. 😉 Thank you.

A very dark period that, thankfully, has been totally crushed to powder and blown away. Hoping this new novel will be published soon and helps others who have or are suffering from this horrible issue. I certainly celebrate your triumph.

Dear Dale,
I think of your artist friend and wonder how she continues. And then there are those I’ve known who didn’t make it either. I do feel blessed and am ready to tell the world about it. (Publisher please 😉 ) Thank you. 😀
Shalom and lotsa strong hugs,
Rochelle

I have no blessed clue how she still thrives, never mind survives.
And that is a good thing! Who knows how many you might help? Plus, it’s a fabulous read…

Excellent telling of dark times, an unusual (for you) baring of the soul.
One of your best, m’lady.

Dear Rochelle,
How tremendously brave to face your demons and overcome them, “chipping away at the megalith” day by day! May that courage help others to “celebrate life” as you do now, by God’s grace. Your drawings from that time are frightening but somehow recognizable to those of us that have been in the dark places of self-hatred and fragmentation. It’s nice to come out into the light, isn’t it? Hallelujah!

Dear Adele,
At one point I had two choices. Live or die. I’m glad I chose the former 😉 And God provided some wonderful support people along the way. Thank you for your kind words that make me blush.

You’re welcome, Rochelle 🙂 I too am glad that you chose the former. And God always comes through for us, doesn’t He?

Hey Rochelle,
I’ve not known you long, but early on in the poem, I knew it was you. Well done on all counts.
Peace,
Bill

Dear Bill,
I didn’t really try to hide the fact that it was me. It worked better for me to put it in the 3rd person. 😉 Thank you.
