A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s Comment Section.
This one’s fiction for me…but tragically not for everyone.
REPARATION
Each time he’d wail and beat his chest. “It’ll never happen again.”
Histrionics and lies.
Cosmetics couldn’t conceal the vicious truth.
Her flight left at 06:30.
At 10:00 they found the gun in his hand.
“Suicide,” said police.
Gazing out the airplane’s window, she smiled. “Nope. Never again.”
Dear Rochelle,
Sadly a true story for far too many women (okay, a few men, too). So very glad this is fiction and that you leave it open for us to interpret whether or not she made it look like a suicide or if it really was…
Shalom and lotsa healthy love,
Dale

Dear Dale,
Hey, I only had 48 words to work with. It amazed me how quickly this one downloaded. Frankly, I was just happy to see her free. Of course, she’ll need help healing, but it’s a step in the right direction. And yes, I know of one young man who put up with physical and emotional abuse from his wife before realizing that’s what was happening.
Thank you for your affirming comments.
Shalom and lotsa calm and loving hugs,
Rochelle

With only 48 words I had to leave it to the reader to decide. 😉 L’chaim.

Histrionics and lies go hand in hand. I hope your watercolor illustration is Her toasting herself on the plane.

Oy. Sometimes this is a reality that a woman sees no other option. But to leave and make sure there’s no coming after her. Never should come to that. Never should.
Well done in capturing so much in so little! xx

Na’ama Y’karah,
Nope, never should’ve come to that. 😦 Sadly she saw no other way out. Thank you.

😦 Yes, I know. And some saw the only option as ‘taking themselves out of the game’ … 😦 Domestic violence is a terrible, terrible, terrible, thing. Never justified.
