SOGGY HOLIDAY

I purchased my tickets last March, for my annual North Carolina, “sibling revelry” visit, dreaming of sunshine, beach combing and ocean swimming.

August came. In anticipation, I boarded my flight in Kansas City. My thirty-minute layover in Charlotte turned into two and a half hours in a thunderstorm. After a thirty-minute flight I was greeted by my brother and his wife in Wilmington after midnight.

Lost luggage, computer glitches, Hurricane Debby (not to be confused with my gentle sister-in-law Debbie), and a rained-out concert made for a challenging “getaway.”
And that, my friends, is how I spent my summer vacation.

We made it to the beach…once…for an hour. After that the heavens opened once more.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM BENJI, PIP AND DIVA.

    • Dear Neil,

I guess that was one redeeming thing about the rained out concert. We were pretty well soaked by then. Went back to the house, popped popcorn, watched a movie and laughed about the whole thing. Thank you and Happy New Year to you. 😀

      Shalom,

      Rochelle

  • Sounds like our last vacation. Sorry, gotta chuckle. Our last trip Father’s Day weekend ended with us no longer having a car. I don’t want to relive 2024. I made a new prayer journal for this year, and the first prayer is for Louisiana… such a tragic way to begin the year. ~Shalom, Bear

    • Dear Bear,

When so many crazy things go wrong you kind of have to laugh. When we were caught in the rain waiting for the concert to resume (which it never did) we just had a good laugh. Thanks for identifying yourself. Happy New Year.

      Shalom,

  • Dear Rochelle,

In the end, it’s really about the company you keep, right? (I know, I know, hurricanes and computer glitches could make themselves scarce.)

Shalom and lotsa New Year Love,

    • Dear Jen,

It was a memorable vacation indeed. One of my favorite things about visiting Jeff and Debbie, is early morning coffee and chats with Debbie before Jeff gets up. And cuddling dogs, of course. The weather didn’t hamper that. After all the years of these visits, it’s always about the company. Thank you.

      Shalom,

      Rochelle

  • Happy New Year, Rochelle. A lovely painting to start off the year with. Your story sounds trying, but as I always say, it makes a good story. 🙂

My apologies if I took some liberties with your picture for my front cover. I had to crop it and since your name got taken off, I added it at the bottom. I crop photos sometimes but I feel like paintings should be treated with even more care. 🙂

Have a good weekend! Stay warm since it looks like your area is in for some chilly weather.

    • Dear David,

Not to worry about taking liberty with my picture. It works. I rather like what you did.

We did get hammered this past weekend with snow and freezing rain. Ah the joys of living in the Midwest.

Thank you re your comments on my story and painting.

      Shalom and Happy New Year,

      Rochelle

    • Dear Fleur,

Oh those soggy holidays. We had a few of those on camping trips. At least with this one it was indoors and comfy. Thank you re my painting. That was from a snapshot I took just outside my brother’s front door.

      • You are a whizz with a paintbrush! I’d love to have that skill. My mum was a self-taught artist, copying from Christmas cards, calendars or photos. Her attention to detail was amazing. I missed out on that gene, but I can string words together!

    • Dear Gabi,

The vacation was really about the company. On the upside I didn’t have to worry about sunburn. 😉 As for the three pups, they belong to my brother and SIL. I call it my annual fur fix. I just love them. We don’t have any pets by mutual agreement. Sigh. I do miss having a furball to cuddle. Thank you.

      Shalom and Happy New Year,

      Rochelle

  • Damn! Planning ahead is supposed to leave room to work around all the bad stuff. I guess the bad stuff’s spontaneity trumped your planning. I hope you had enough bright spots to squeeze some enjoyment out of your vacation.

    • Dear Nobbin,

The weather is one of those things you can’t control. At any rate, the company more than made up for the snafus. I’m looking forward to this coming August and hoping for better weather and more beach time. Nonetheless I enjoyed the company and doggy cuddles. Thank you.

      Shalom and happy new year,

      Rochelle

  • Oh no!!! But the best memories sometimes come from bad vacation luck. A horrible hotel story of my own is coming to mind-I was told to go buy my own toilet plunger…and that was just the tip of the iceberg, hehe. Your dogs are adorable, too!

    • Dear Angela,

Challenging vacations make for great stories, don’t they? Bring your own toilet plunger doesn’t sound too promising, though.

The dogs aren’t mine. They’re my brother and SIL’s and part of my annual vacation. I look forward to them as much as a I their parents. ;). Thank you.

      Shalom,

      Rochelle

    • Dear Laurie,

It was a memorable vacation in many ways. I did enjoy my brother, sister-in-law and their three dogs. I only see them once a year and that was the important part of the visit. I honestly didn’t feel cheated. Thank you and a happy new year to you.

      Shalom,

      Rochelle
