PURPLE PROSE

Addicted? Me? Nah. No way.

It is true that I’ve always loved purple—all shades of it, from pale lavender to deep violet.

It’s more than a color, or colour, depending on your locale. In North Carolina there’s even a boutique called, of all things, Purpleologist. They sell everything from knickknacks to jewelry, sunglasses, and clothes.

Twelve years ago, at a writer’s workshop, we bloggers were encouraged to create a memorable title to build our brand. “Addicted to Purple” was born—a bit of humor that seems to have caught on. That’s all.

Addicted? Me? Nah, I can stop anytime.

Here’s a link to Russell Gayer’s take on my addiction that he posted in 2012. (Note, he was at that same workshop)

A few years back, someone sent me the link to this song. He said it should be my theme song. 😉 It is my iPhone’s ringtone. 😀 What can I say? It works.

I can quit anytime.

  • In my dawn ruminations about the prompt I hit on the Purple Prose theme, and am very glad I didn’t develop the idea further after I woke from the much needed 2 hours I enjoyed after that. Great take – I sense it came easily to you!

    • Dear Sandra,

I’m so glad you decided to join in today. I suppose this one did come pretty easily, although in all honesty, I didn’t have a clue when I chose Lisa’s photo. It just appealed to me. I find myself being more anectdotal that historical these days. More fact than fiction. Hm. Guess I’m getting reflective in my latter years. (Ugh, I don’t even like the sound of that!) At any rate, thank you.

      Shalom,

      Rochelle

  • LOL! I feel the same about red-white-blue… I see it as One color. It occasionally bleeds, but it never runs. I have faint memories of my bedroom of my early childhood. My Gran made me red-white striped curtains with a blue valance. Blue pillows, with a red-white stripe sheets. Even clothing in the combo. Even now, I have a closet full of red-white-blue…. and in the last year, I’ve added pink. LOL! I love our flag, and I collect things with it in it. My smallest flag was made for me by a lady in Russia. It’s so small and fold triangular… will sit on a nickel. Maybe, as I consider getting a new wordpress (paid) site, I should come up with a name that reflects my love. Happy New Year, Rochelle! ~ Shalom, Bear

  • You can quit anytime? Hahahahaha Nope. That has definitely been your calling card. In all things, purple abounds. It’s been a good recognition symbol as people can simply search for “Addicted to Purple”and, voila, you appear. Good job M’Luv.

  • I love purple, too. In fact, I recently purchased a lovely purple velvet dress, and I wish I could wear it every day. It’s soft, warm, and SOOOo comfortable. It makes me feel queenly, and that’s hard to do when you stand a little under 5′ tall 🙂

  • Dear Lilly Von Lavender W(T)F,

I love the disclaimer (I can quit anytime), HA! Perhaps if you stumble into a bog of radioactive waste Purple Woman will crawl out wearing her cape and mask and save us all from Mr Mauve or Terrence Taupe.

I can hear you asking poor Mr Fields, “Would you like some purple eggs and ham, Jan you am?”

Rhea Perlman could portray you in the movie (although she is a bit tall for the part). Anyway, try not to fantasize about it too much. Purple Woman is a real step up from that theiving mime, What’s Her Name.

    I’m outta here (zip),

    • Dear Duck Lips Radon,

Of course I had to look up Ms. Perlman’s bio. It gives her height at 5′. Of course I wonder if gravity has reduced that as it has my height. Gone are the days I could give my height at five-foot-nothing. Although, it appears that we both tower over Danny DeVito. 😉

I’m going to go for my purple cape fitting now. Thank you for dropping by. More than that I cannot say.

  • Rochelle, I’ve been asked three different times now to sign in/sign up for something called Substacked. This is new to me and I don’t know what it is or where it may lead. I have enough email to deal with, don’t want any more. Do you know what this is all about?

    • Dear Linda,

Talk about being late to the party. I’m finding comments I’ve not replied to…oy. I have gotten an invitation recently to join Substacked. I don’t know much about it. It seems there are other platforms trying to replace Facebook. That’s really all I know. Sorry for the late reply.

      Shalom,

      Rochelle
