JULY 10, 1945
Teresa Fletcher breathed in the aroma of apple pie. “Do you think they’ll like my fried chicken?”
“Considering the slop they’ve probably had to eat; your cooking will seem like fine dining.” Bob grinned.
She beamed at her new husband with pride. For three years he’d taken care of Al and Mary’s farm ignoring slurs, threats, and even attacks from the townspeople.
When the Tsukamotos entered, Teresa opened her arms wide and cried, “Welcome home!”
“Our house looks better than when we left!” Mary hugged the newlyweds. “Why’d you do this for us?”
Bob shrugged. “It was the right thing.”

Another snapshot of human kindness from our great history. To live to 101 years, shows that having a real purpose to pursue for others has its rewards.

Heartwarming. I watched a series on something similar some years ago – the fate of other country nationals in their adopted countries is not that widely talked about.

Dear Keith,
Knowing it was a lot to read, I hesitated linking it. It was the best article I could find about Mr. Fletcher and the folks he helped…and the most I could find about his wife. I’m glad you took the time. You and my husband were born the same year. 😉
Thank you,

Some people, thankfully, do the right thing no matter the consequences. This was a great example of “the right thing”. Good story. Glad it is not fiction.

Dear Jan,
Often fact is better than fiction. This story made me happy. Hurrah for the Bob Fletchers of this world who quietly do the right thing! And hurrah for husbands who read and comment on their wives’ stories. 😉

A wonderful story, Rochelle. And it’s such a relief to be reminded from time to time that there are indeed good people in the world, even if our reality seems to drift down the drain fast.

Rochelle, your true story made my day. Walking the walk while helping neutralize the evil others committed against this innocent family. It doesn’t surprise me that his benevolent acts added years to his life.

Dear Rochelle,
You have an amazing knack at bringing wonderful historical stories to life. Stories we would otherwise no nothing about. This was such a one. How amazing there are Bob Fletchers in this world! (I took the time to read your link and am even more amazed at the whole thing.)

Dear Dale,
You know me. When I find ’em I gotta share ’em. 😉 I know the link was a long one but I thought the best one. Bob really had the courage to take a stand, without any thought of consequences. How could Teresa not fall in love with him?
Thank you for your sweet comments.
Shalom and lotsa brave hugs,
Rochelle

Dear Carol Anne,
I’m glad you enjoyed my story. It’s nice to know there are good people in the world.
I apologize for forgetting the photo description. The big while ball of fluff in the middle of the picture is a cluster of white flowers with small petals like lilacs. They seem to be growing through rocks and slate.
