The photo this week is something of a challenge to describe. It looks like a cast iron bowl…perhaps a birdbath painted white. There are large cast iron skeleton keys in the bowl. To the left is a bunch of artificial roses. Hanging from one key in the center is a paper tag on a string. Have fun with this one. 😉

ART-A-REXIA
(An excerpt from Last Dance with Annie)
Although she tried hard not to, Elise had already taken a liking to the psychiatrist. None of her smart aleck comments seemed to deter him. His calm, even voice and relaxed manner put her at ease.
“It says on your admittance form that you work at a grocery store. What’s your position?”
“Sign maker slash cake decorator.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Odd occupation for someone with an eating disorder.”
She turned her head to avoid his inquisitive gaze. “It’s an art form. Like painting. I love to make flowers like roses and daisies. I’d never eat my canvas, would I?”

Good one, Rochelle. I foresee the beginnings of a cure.

Dear Neil,
As Elise has learned. Recovery is a process, not an event. Thank you.

Dear C.E.
Elise often frustrates her shrinks. “She” was once told that her sense of humor was her saving grace and her smokescreen. Thank you.

I’ve known at least one bartender who never drank alcohol although an alcoholic bartender would be something.

Dear James,
Whenever bakery customers would ask if we had anything sugar or gluten free, I’d say, “Only me.” 😉 The alcoholic bartender is pretty much the same. Thank you.

Perfect exerpt to use for this photo. This shrink was the perfect one for Elise at this chapter of her life. Lucky for her 🙂

I know it. And yes, “she” was very lucky; as was I to be offered the chance to read this gem in its beginnings and then after…

Rochelle, cake decorating truly is an art form. I’d feel bad eating some of the creations I’ve seen. It must be a different experience working in a fundamentally temporary artform. Great story. I like the way you portrayed their back and forth dialogue.
have a great week,
David
