This week’s prompt is from a playground. At the top of a double slide is a big orb with a smiley face. There is a railing with little sculpted children betweeen the bars. The sky is blue and there are green trees in the background.

LITTLE WANDA WITH THE BRAIDS
The SS guard smiled at the girl with tearful blue eyes. “Is there something I might help you with, Fraulein?”
She blushed and twirled the end of one of her blonde braids. “I-I need to see Corporal Gruber…a personal matter.”
“Ach.” The guard held the office door for her and winked. “I’m sure he will be most happy to see you, schatzi.”
Moments later, Corporal Gruber and two other officers fell to floor. Dead. Niuta Teitelbaum tucked her revolver back under her apron.
As she left, she waved at the guard, batted her eyelashes, and whispered, “Heil Hitler, you bastards.”

Hi Rochlle, there were many brave young women who fought back.
Her Fate: Wanda with the Braids.
She survived the infamous April 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. However, just a few months later in July 1943, she was tracked down, arrested, brutally tortured, and ultimately executed by the Gestapo at the age of 25.
There was also Sophie Scholl and her brother Hans (both Germans) who set up the White Rose movement in Munich to defy the Nazis and their war.
She was 21 years old when she was guillotined along with her brother.
Many German towns and cities have named streets for their bravery and honour.
Yet evil still haunts this world with barbaric stupidity.
Sorry, your story struck a nerve with me.

Amazing story! She could have taken the easier path by keeping her head down and blending in, but instead decided to resist and fight. Very sad that she was killed at 25. Thank you for the link and for this story of bravery and sacrifice.
