Setting sun is shining dramatically through clouds silhouetting houses and trees. A bit of light is reflecting off of two cars in the foreground beside the house to the right. If you look closely, you can make out a garage door.
This week marks my 14 year anniversary as Friday Fictioneers Facilitator. A handfull of you were here before I came aboard. Thank you for sticking with me. 😀 Shalom, Rochelle.

BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE
“Whatcha inventing now, Pop?”
Young Dick watched his father nail a bedsheet between two trees in front of his automobile on which he’d propped a Kodak movie projector.
“I’m building an outdoor theater for Grandma.”
The boy tilted his head. “Because she hates sitting in seats in the theater because she’s so y’know…mm…big?”
Pop chuckled. “She’ll be more comfortable watching movies from ol’ Suzabelle here.”
“May I sit in the car with her?”
“Why the whole family can pile in.”
Not long afterward Pop, Richard Hollingshead, found investors and on June 6, 1933, opened the first 400-acre drive-in movie theater.

A little more info.

Drive in Cinema works in areas of moderate climate. I am not sure Scotland would be a good place as the screen would be forever awash with rain. Perhaps, the Poseidon Adventure film would gives us the jitters.

Dear James,
When we had the drive-in theatres they were only open during the summer months. No one wants to sit in their car and watch a movie while snow’s falling. 😉

Dear Geeta,
And that’s a new one on me. I didn’t know you had any drive-in’s over there. Sadly, they’re a thing of the past here. Thank you.

Nostalgic are there still drive-ins?

Dear Neil,
The drive-in was such a huge part of my childhood. Cheap entertainment. I looked it up on Google, there are still a few left in the states and even one in my general vicinity. THank you.

My parents took me to a lot of drive-ins as a kid and I remember continuing to see movies in that venue through high school. Fond memories.

Dear James,
Drive-Ins were a huge part of my childhood. We had one very close to us. We children would go dressed in our PJ’s. We’d play on the playground under the screen before the cartoons started. In July they would do a fireworks display the whole week of the 4th. Sweet memories.

Ah! I spent many hours at drive in theaters. And many adventures as well. It worked as a child, teenager, family man and more. Pop a huge bag of popcorn, load blankets and pillows and the kids had a ball as well. Memories for a lifetime. Well done M’Luv.

Dear Judy,
For the most part, the story’s true. The scene itself is from my imagination and it was my mom who named her car Suzabelle back in the 30’s. 😉 Thank you.

That was great! We have outdoor movies in my town in the Summer; they project them onto the outside wall of our theatre, you can sit on the grass or take your own chair, and it’s completely free!

Dear Keith,
How sweet of your town to do that. Thank you.

In a bit of synchronicity I watched an episode of American Pickers where they went to a drive-in theater in the process of being refurbished. So many fond memories of going as a kid.
