A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.
Thank you for the challenge, Sammi.
Remember Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver? I dreamed I would one day marry the perfect man. We’d live in a charming house with a flower garden and a white picket fence. Our children would be well-behaved and talented.
Nearly fifty years and three sons later, I reflect. Did I marry Ward Cleaver? Nope. Nor did he marry June. Real life turned out to be a messy proposition. There were good times and not-so-good times. One idyll after another teetered and fell.
Awwwww!

Dear Rochelle,
I love this! Idyll is what we make it, isn’t it?
Maybe we have ideas that are not doable nor reasonable and in the end we realise that we have our version of it anyway….
Shalom and lotsa love,
Dale

Dear Dale,
When I got frustrated with my boys, I would throw up my hands and say, “I’m not June Cleaver.” I really wanted to be Laura Petrie. Oh well. 😉 I got “Be it ever so dysfunctional, there’s no place like hoem.” Thank you for coming by, my friend.
Shalom and lotsa hugs,
Rochelle

Yep, real life is real life. I’d say yours turned out pretty good, Rochelle. What a wonderful post to read and see the photos… Then and Now, the dudes under the Hollywood sign, the little kids… And, I think I just found a Photo Prompt! Can you guess which one? I’ve got to tell Dale.

Dear Ted,
I guess things turned out all right. 😉 When it comes to my boys, I always say I had one of each. They defied being put into boxes, ie “boys do this…etc” Such distinct personalities. And none of them came with an instruction manual. Thank you for your kind words.

Rochelle

Interesting piece and delightful pictures. I can so relate to your journey – ups and downs, sadness and joy. Now? Life is idyllic!

Life reflections. The goal is after you teeter and fall, as all will, always have the ability and drive to stand up and be idyllic once again. Good story. These people appear familiar to me.

Nice one, Rochelle 🙂 I liked how you spoke of the ups and downs but in the end, you have your own idyll. Great photos.

Dear Rochelle,
Thank you so much for the follow. As soon as I am done writing this, I shall return the favor.
I know you wrote that your Idyll teetered and fell, but, if I may add (with humor), really? Ward Cleaver? Aren’t you glad you got the messy in the end instead of something manufactured? I do understand. Life did not end up as planned. I hope better.
There was a Buddhist writer I used to read and have completely forgotten her name, but she said essentially, “Women experience paradise frequently but always momentary. We are too busy to pursue permanent Paradise. Leave that to the men. Yet, when it visits, we enjoy every moment, knowing it’s impermanent.”
Cheers,
Janet

Dear Janet,
Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment. When we’re children (and, unfortunately, some adults) television is real. The Cleavers, the Stones, the Andersons and the Petries. We forget they all slept in separate beds. 😉 My life has certainly turned out to be more interesting than the TV role models and my children…well, as we Jewish mothers say, I could kvell (boast) for hours. Thank you for the follow as well.
