Weekend Writing Prompt – EQUINOX

Published March 16, 2019 by rochellewisoff

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.

Thanks to Sammi for the challenge.

Once more the word prompt has me in touch with my inner Dale. 😉

The package arrived an hour and fifteen minutes before the vernal equinox and eleven days before we expected it. Nonetheless, we were prepared for its imminent appearance.

Monday afternoon, following twenty-four hours of practiced breathing, effleurage and pushing, our second son transformed us into a family of four. Seven pounds, twelve and a half ounces of chubby cuteness, Travis was born four years and four days after his older brother Shannon.

Spring heralded noisy birthday parties and colorful cakes—our own March Madness.

SEASHORE – Weekend Word Prompt

Word Prompt

Thanks to Sammi Cox for the challenge. 😀

A little reminiscence .

My parents took me to Miami Beach the year I turned fourteen.

My first trip to the seashore.

However…

Puberty wreaked havoc

Hormones raged.

Everything was wrong. I didn’t have a Twiggy figure.

My hair required constant ironing.

Nonetheless…

The sea calmed me.

            The ocean stretched before me.

I dipped my toe in the water.

                                    As the future beckoned.

A picture my brother took of 14 year old me being very unhappy with myself.

TRASH 80

“Isn’t it beautiful?” Jan showed off his latest acquisition from Radio Shack.

I fumed. “Our electric typewriter works just fine. A computer will end up being another dust collector like your precious Polaroid SX-70.”

“How was I supposed to know the film would cost a fortune?”

Thirty-six years have passed since that day.  I’ve acquired my own desktop, scanner-printer combo, a netbook for travel and Jan takes sharp pictures with his iPad.

He reads my story over my shoulder and says with a sly smile, “Lemme get a rag for you.”

            “Why?”

“You’ve been at it hours. You’re collecting dust.”
