A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.
Thank you for the challenge, Sammi.
Older moms cautioned me about wishing my babies’ lives away.
“Rock them. Enjoy every moment.”
Caught up in colic, teething, followed by the ‘terrible two’s,’ their words of wisdom fell on deaf and weary ears.
As my boys grew, they bickered and teased. The days seemed to plod at a glacial pace.
Now they’re grown men, living their lives far away.
Where did the time go?
Dear Rochelle,
I love where you went with this one. I love that this particular challenge is so personal to you and that you share with us.
Shalom and lotsa love,
Dale

Dear Dale,
I pretty much go with stream of conscious with this prompt. Glad you like it. 😀 Thank you, my friend.

I think it’s a great way to go, frankly.

Lovely piece, and very true. I find myself asking the same thing with my nephew. It seems like yesterday that he was a tiny baby in his dad’s arm and now he’s starting school and having conversation, never holding still for too long. Time seems to fly past.

It’s amazing how fast the time flies, isn’t it? Thank you for your kind words.

Exactly my experience with my children – though they haven’t left home yet 😄

Dear Colline,
They leave all too soon. Thank you for reading and relating. 😀

Well done nostalgia piece. And, where the heck did that time go? Weren’t we young once? I looked into the mirror this morning and asked myself “Who is that staring back at me?”. Missing our boys today. I do all the time but specifically today on Fathers Day.

Dear Jan,
I know what you mean. I miss them, too. I want to know how my Aunt Lucille got into my mirror? Happy Father’s Day, m’luv.

I think I did it right. But I m not sure how to post mine, which is less warm than your 66 words. You blended Father’s Day and your family beautifully.

Dear Susan,
It seems more people went with the colder meaning of glacial. 😉 Thank you for your warm words.
As far as posting it goes, go to Sammi’s page https://sammiscribbles.wordpress.com/2019/06/15/weekend-writing-prompt-110-glacial/ and post the URL to your story in her comment section.
Shalom and Happy Father’s Day to Will,

Ah, the seemingly glacial days of “will they ever go to bed so I can have a moment of peace” that I think are inevitable for any parent … So well captured, along with the beautiful undercurrents of love and wonder. 🙂
Fab!

Na’ama Y’arah,
Admittedly there are things about child rearing I don’t miss. Colic was a nightmare and potty training? Fuhget about it. What I do miss are the hugs with their sweet cheeks against mine. The silly antics and some of the mischief little boys can get into. Yeah, those things I do miss. 😉 Thank you for your kind warming words. 😀
Shalom,
Rochelle

I hear you … I think nature orchestrated it that way to have the sweet-cheeks and silly antics and impossible adorableness coincide with the first years of colic and potty training and sibling fights … (well, hopefully the latter ends or softens after the early years …). 😉
And … yes, I’m sure there is a lot to miss and a lot to be gratful to have moved beyond (like, say, sleeping in, and sleeping through the night … ;))
🙂

I am happy to say that my sons are good friends with each other. You wonder during those tumultuous years of sibling rivalry (which was sometimes intense.) 😀

🙂 That they are good friends is a testament, in part, to your parenting in not amplifying or cementing those rivalries, which can so often happen, wittingly or not. 🙂 Good for you! 🙂
