Weekend Writing Prompt – Gallivant

Published June 20, 2020 by rochellewisoff

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s comment section.

ON TOP OF THE WORLD

A sharecropper’s son, Matthew Henson never lived in one place very long.

The twelve-year-old dropped out of school in Baltimore to go to sea.

With explorer Richard Peary, Matthew gallivanted from Nicaragua to the Arctic.

In 1909 Henson planted the American flag on the North Pole.

  • Yay to him, and just comes to show that no cookie cutter approach works for everyone. As a friend of mine likes to remind her students: “You are people, not cookies.”
I got tired just thinking of gallivanting quite that far … Remarkable people, those!
(and me? a tired cookie, eh?)
    😉

    • Na’ama Y’karah,

I would have to be a chocolate, cherry and butterscotch chip cookie with a few pecans thrown in for texture. 😉 A drop cookie at that. 😉 I’m glad you’re not too tired to write good stories. 😀

      • OOOOOOOOOOOH, yeah, I think I’d like a couple of those, please, thank you! 😉
And … I’m glad I’m not too tired to write a little, either. Been under the weather the last 9 days, so it’s been less energy than usual, but hey, if I can write a little, it is definitely not as bad as it can be! 🙂
        xoxo
Na’ama (who is waiting not for cookies but for the Irish Soda Bread – new recipe, so fingers crossed – to come out of the oven).
