(A mini history lesson in 53…Of cabbages and kings, of pigeons ant things.)
PERISTERONIC
“Cher Ami.” said Grandpa, “was a hero of the Great War. The Krauts shot a hole in his chest, blasted out his eye and blew off his leg. Yet nothing could deter him from his mission.”
“He must’ve been a tough.”
“Yessir. Two-hundred of us doughboys owe that tough carrier pigeon our lives.”
A fine story.

The not-exactly-consenting but diligently enlisted pigeon messenger of war …
They saved lives, didn’t they?
(I prefer to look on that side of the equation, and not on the messages that might’ve cost live .. ugh I do so hate all war!)

Na’ama Y’karah,
It’s amazing what animals are capable of, isn’t it? I agree about war. Thank you and thank you for…well, you know. 😉
Shalom,
Rochelle
PS I’m almost to the end of a really good book I can’t seem to put down!

Yeah … war is ugly. In every possible way. And justified in no way.
So glad about that good book you’re reading! 🙂 I’ve began reading a manuscript, too. Pretty good one, as well! 😉

I see you got your story in about peristeronic. I had no doubt. Good job.

Dear Jan,
I kind of ‘cheated’. It’s a shortened version of a story I wrote for Friday Fictioneers four years ago. But it fits. Thanks, m’luv.

Dear Keith,
He must’ve been one amazing pigeon. He certainly rose above the level of pooping on a window ledge. 😉 Thank you.

They don’t make ’em like that any more, do they, m’lady?
Also, have you thought about petitioning WP with the backing of the Fictioneers?
And does anyone have a good alternative site?
Maybe we should ask WP that question.

Dear CE,
Some animals amaze me. He was one of them. Thank you.
As for WP, I don’t know what to do. I didn’t care much for blogger so that’s not an option.

Dear Rochelle,
I remember this original story! Amazing how these often vilified birds came through. And like Na’ama said, we’ll focus on OUR side of things.
Shalom and lotsa love,

Dear Dale,
You could say I kind of cheated. But then it was my story to begin with and that was four years ago. Right? Of course, right!
i certainly don’t want to glorify war, but Cher Ami was amazing, wasn’t he?
Thank you.
Shalom and lotsa high-flying hugs,
Rochelle

Great story, Rochelle.
We newbies to the wonderful world of WP’s Rochelle-ville would not have seen your previous posts (or art). Like other things in my life, ‘it’s new to me.’ So not cheating.
As for as the animals (beasts of burden), we continue to use them in war and peace. As with Cher Ami, awarded the Croix de Guerre Medal, many animals are considered heroes by warriors and are so-honored.
Peace (we can dream),
Bill
