Weekend Writing Prompt – Paradox

Published November 21, 2020 by rochellewisoff

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s Comment Section.

IT BEGAN IN 1971

(IN 71 WORDS)

“You’re not in love.” My mother fumed. “You’re in lust. Only eighteen. Too young to know your own mind.”

Nonetheless, I dug in my heels. My dad walked me down the aisle, a sorrowful expression on his face and tears in his eyes. “You can always come home if it doesn’t work out.”

“I give them six months,” said my aunt.

A paradox in progress.

Forty-nine years later, we’re still married.

  • Oh yeah. Boy, did we prove them all wrong. We had some bumps and bruises along the way, but you learn, adapt, love, forgive, and move on down the road to happiness. I always said that I was only going to get married once. And, I meant it. Here’s to many more Anniversaries.

    • Na’ama Y’karah,

We used to laugh and say that the reason we didn’t divorce was because we didn’t want to have a custody battle. I told him I’d hire lack-of-character witnesses and prove I was an unfit mother. Now the kids aren’t an issue. I guess we’ve become accustomed to each other and are both too damned stubborn. Thank you.

      Shalom,

      Rochelle

  • Forgive my tackiness, Rochelle, s’il vous plaît.

At 19, I was “young and dumb, and full of cum.” Lust has no paradox. It is what it is.
Love, on the other hand, is so many confusing things.

Military as I was, permission of my commander and pre-marriage counseling were required.

Today, we both agree that the immediate 18 months assignment to Ankara, Turkey, saved the marriage because neither of us could go home or call mother.

54+ years later, my only advice to the young is, “Marry the right person early and move to a planet far, far away.”

Peace and Longevity to you and yours,

    Bill
