It would seem my muse woke up this morning. So not only did I take the liberty of posting a thrice-run story, I’m double dipping as well. 😉

LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS
They sat at the kitchen table, a bag of pretzels between them. Light from the old-fashioned lamps cast a warm glow in the room. Shelly savored the salt on her tongue, then sipped her Cabernet.
“It’s so romantic, isn’t it?” She moved her book closer to the light. “Dontcha love it?”
Jon turned the page of his magazine. “Not the best reading light.”
“Must you be so negative? Remember, ‘It’s better to light a candle than curse the darkness.’”
“Thank you, Eleanor Roosevelt.” He frowned. “I’ll stop cursing the darkness when the power’s restored and the TV comes back on.”

Love it. That sounds like a lot of couples I know. I can go a while without even realizing the power has gone out but he would instantly be missing some “vital” appliance.

Those of us who barely remember pre-electricity days will have a hard time adjusting, if/when that time comes. No more computers, for one thing 🙂

I can’t say I remember the pre-electricity days, but I most certainly remember living without cell phones or computers. Oh and there was a time when we had black and white televisions that had to be adjusted. 😉

There is a great cry of using less energy to save the planet. Some people will never give up the luxury of modern living. so let the Eco-warriors shout loud and dance. I bet they all drive cars.

Fortunately, in this situation, the power wasn’t out long. The main problem with outages is that every smoke alarm in the house goes off. Glad you have power in NYC. 😉

Yeah. Oy. And, yes, where I am in the city, most cables are underground, so if the lights go off, it is rare and usually signals a BIG issue someplace.
