HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
Stretching his tired arms over his head Kenji drank in the aroma of cherry blossoms. Nowhere were they more beautiful than in Asakusa.
His last customer had been a hefty gentleman. Steep hills challenged Kenji’s muscles. He sighed with relief. No more riders today.
He groaned when a voice came from behind. “Excuse me, sir. How much to ride?”
“Sorry ma’am, I am done for—”
He turned and gazed into eyes that rivaled the glory of the night sky. His heart thumped against his ribs. He bowed.
“I will carry you to the ends of the earth. No charge.”
Those eyes, those hypnotic eyes and beauty. All the pretty girls get free rides, fair or unfair?

Dear James,
Perhaps not all pretty girls, but defiinitly this one gets a free ride. 😉

One where you have to read the title… Very sweet 🙂

Dear Trent,
I’m so pleased you caught the title. It seems in FF we often miss them. I was told some years back by a former FF’r that the right title adds 100 words. 😉 Thank you.

Sometimes my titles are an important part of the story, but I’ll admit that I too often miss titles, or might catch it after I read the story – “Oh, OK, now I get it!”

Dear Rochelle,
I love this story. I guess it’s the romantic in me. My favorite line is, of course, “He turned and gazed into eyes that rivaled the glory of the night sky.” I loved how he changed from no more riders for the rest of the day to the declaration that he would take her to the ends of the earth. Very gallant and romantic. Great title. He obviously won her heart as she won his.

The title adds so much to this piece, because it makes a love story out of something that could be merely seedy. As ever, so much beautifully said in the few words available.

Dear Jen,
A mutual friend and former Friday Fictioneer was fond of saying a good title added 100 words to the story. Thank you for your affirming comments.

She must have been quite the looker! I wonder if she insisted on paying for the ride – a personality to match, or a femme fatale?

Dear Iain,
I think it was genuinely love at first sight. 😉 But with only 100 words I leave it to the reader to draw their own conclusions.

Please forgive my shameful oversight! The word count completely eluded me and I’m terribly embarrassed by that blunder. I’m usually much more careful about something so important! So very sorry and apologies to everyone in the group; that was a careless mistake. Please feel free to remove my post; even though unintentional, I broke the rules. ✌🏼
