ONE OF THOSE DAYS THAT SHOULD BE DROWNED AT BIRTH
Every year, the American Cancer Society challenges lap swimmers to raise money for the cause by swimming five miles in a month. Each of us receives a medal for the first $25 collected.
Tuesday, after my swim, I took the usual selfie for my Facebook page. As I gathered my swim gear, my iPhone slipped from my grasp into the deep end. Its screen never dimmed.
The lifeguard rushed to my aid. “Would you like me to get that for you.”
“No, but I can’t find my goggles,” I replied in a panic.
“Ma’am, they’re on top of your head.”
Epilogue: At this posting, Tuesday is two weeks in the past. I’m happy to report that my iPhone dried out and continues to work well. No doubt the young lifeguard had something to tell his friends and family about the dingy old lady at the pool. At least I hope he got some mileage out of it 😉 I certainly have. I am my own anecdote. 😀 Shalom.

Hahaha, I like how you forgot that your goggles were on your head 😆 It’s great that your phone continued to work even after being in the pool. Wonderful story, Rochelle. ☺️

Dear Anne,
I’m passionate about swimming and so want to see a cure for Cancer. Our most recent loss was my sister in law in January, my husband’s sister. She was my friend before she introduced us all those years ago. This has been a tough one. So it was worth “losing” my phone. 😉 Thank you.

Oh, Rochelle, this gave me such a good laugh! 😂 The phone taking a dive was bad enough, but searching for your goggles while they were sitting on top of your head was priceless. I’m glad the iPhone survived its adventure and even better that you can laugh about the whole experience now. Sometimes we really do become the best characters in our own stories! 🏊♀️📱😊

Must be an age thing. A young person would have panicked if their iPhone ended up in the pool.

Dear James,
Oh I won’t claim that I didn’t panic over the phone. We do so much with those damned gadgets these days. In watching the latest iPhone add touting it’s wonderful camera, I found myself reminiscing about the days when a phone was just a phone. 😉 With a rotary dial at that. Thank you.

I’m proud of you for your Cancer Swim Challenge. You have done well by far surpassing the measly 5 mile challenge. Now, if we can just NOT try to make the phone part of that challenge. lol. We also know not to stick it in a bowl of rice. Good job.

Dear Jan,
I’d really love to have an underwater camera, but not that way. 😉 Glad the phone’s fine and I’ll stick to steaming rice as opposed to dredging my phone through it. 😉 Live, learn, love, and laugh. 😀

I’ve also lost my glasses while their on my face or my billfold in my hand. SMH. I really would love to have a camera that takes pics underwater, but this isn’t what I had in mind. Thank you.

Way to go you! On swimming for cancer, that is… On the clumsiness with the phone and goggles, maybe a little less 😉
Glad everything worked in the end. Cell phones are less wimpy than they once were, thankfully!

A wonderful thing you did, swimming to raise money for cancer! I smiled at your story. So many times I’ve done the same but with my ordinary glasses. I know where they are immediately at the look on my husband’s face. Thanks for sharing!

I’m pretty sure most of us have done similar things. I’ve also “lost” my glasses on my face. Swimming is something I love so using it for a worthy cause gives me great joy. Thank you.

Rochelle,
This week WordPress is being really wonky for me. I had trouble linking up and thought I finally got it to work, but Dale pointed out that my post from last week is linked up this week. I tried to post the correct link to this week, but again I am getting an error. Not a big deal, just an FYI. I also had trouble liking and commenting so I apologize to you and everyone else that I was unable to like/comment on, please know that I do read everyone’s stories, but often have trouble commenting (as I know you are aware of the bloggy problems). I was able to comment today, after clearing my cache, but unfortunately do not have to read everyone’s stories a second time.
