CRASHING THE GATE
Every morning she raced him through the entrance as fast as her four legs would carry her. He huffed and puffed behind her, trying to keep up. Alas his best was never good enough.
She would wag her stubby tail in victory as if to say, “Ha! You’ll never win, chubby.”
He’d hang his head as the gate clanked shut behind them. Locked out again. He and his playmate clawed at the rusty hasp and whimpered.
Connie, the lady of the house opened the gate and kissed his cherry-red nose. “Honestly, Russell, I wish you’d just fix the doggone latch.”
